Tuhoe Tales

The story of a motor ship saved from the scrapper, by Colin Amodeo.

There are two parts  to Tuhoe Tales – the first based on tape-recorded interviews  made in 1985-86 with her wartime master, Edwin Couldrey of Auckland, as well as from  his 1987 memoirs, together with extracts from wartime USN  Chief Officer Philip Walker’s diary and the recollections  of several former wartime Tuhoe crew members.

The second part is based on discussions with  her post-war  master ‘Andy’ Anderson of Christchurch, Kaiapoi historian  Tom Ayers, members  of the Tuhoe  Preservation Society and the MV Tuhoe Kaiapoi Rivertown Trust, Kaiapoi, North Canterbury, New Zealand.

M.V. Tuhoe - The Final Chapter

The final chapter of Kaiapoi’s 96 year old motor vessel MV Tuhoe came to an end on the 27th of September 2015 after beaching at the Waimakariri river mouth.Now 10 years on the Kaiapoi Maritime Heritage Trust have published this book written by Paul Croucher who recalls the events taken from those onboard Tuhoe that fateful day.
